This is our last webcast from the US before moving the āśram to india. We’re working on all kinds of new videos, but it might be a few days before we can upload them since we will not have access to a broadband connection until we get one installed in our new āśram. In this video we read from pastimes of Kṛṣṇa in Śrīla Prabhupāda’s Kṛṣṇa Book, Chapter 8, Vision of the Universal Form.

This is our last Sunday Satsang at Devesh’s in US, before leaving for India to join Babaji. Music is very important in devotional service, as the attitude with which we approach the Holy Name in kirtan determines the result.

“Those who are on this path are resolute in purpose, and their aim is one. O beloved child of the Kurus, the intelligence of those who are irresolute is many-branched.” [Bhagavad-gītā 2.41]

We read a verse from Bhagavad Gita, Chapter 3, verse 27. We talk about the three modes of material nature, and how important is to have a good understanding of each of them, and how are they material states of conciousness:
prakṛteḥ kriyamāṇāni
guṇaiḥ karmāṇi sarvaśaḥ
ahaṅkāra-vimūḍhātmā
kartāham iti manyate
“The bewildered spirit soul, under the influence of the three modes of material nature, thinks himself to be the doer of activities, which are in actuality carried out by nature.”

Ānanda-vardhana dāsa read a verse from Bhagavad Gita Chapter 4 verse 10. He explains how this verse includes the core concepts of the Esoteric Teaching in a nutshell:
vīta-rāga-bhaya-krodhā
man-mayā mām upāśritāḥ
bahavo jñāna-tapasā
pūtā mad-bhāvam āgatāḥ
“Being freed from attachment, fear and anger, being fully absorbed in Me and taking refuge in Me, many, many persons in the past became purifled by knowledge of Me—and thus they all attained transcendental love for Me.”
Questions:
Im reading Bhagavad Gita sentence by sentence. In two purports Prabhupada explains that desire is like lust, and in another purport he mentions fire and sparks. What is the difference in between these two ?

We read Bhagavad-gītā Chapter 18, verse 28, and we start an explanation of the 3 modes and the importance of knowledge on how they work:
ayuktaḥ prākṛtaḥ stabdhaḥ
śaṭho naiṣkṛtiko lasaḥ
viṣādī dīrgha-sūtrī ca
kartā tāmasa ucyate
“And that worker who is always engaged in work against the injunction of the scripture, who is materialistic, obstinate, cheating and expert in insulting others, who is lazy, always morose and procrastinating, is a worker in the mode of ignorance.”

Kānāi dāsa continues the class on Bhagavad Gita Chapter 16 verses 1,2 and 3:
śrī-bhagavān uvāca
abhayaṁ sattva-saṁśuddhir
jñāna-yoga-vyavasthitiḥ
dānaṁ damaś ca yajñaś ca
svādhyāyas tapa ārjavam
ahiṁsā satyam akrodhas
tyāgaḥ śāntir apaiśunam
dayā bhūteṣv aloluptvaṁ
mārdavaṁ hrīr acāpalam
tejaḥ kṣamā dhṛtiḥ śaucam
adroho nāti-mānitā
bhavanti sampadaṁ daivīm
abhijātasya bhārata
The Blessed Lord said: “Fearlessness, purification of one’s existence, cultivation of spiritual knowledge, charity, self-control, performance of sacrifice, study of the Vedas, austerity and simplicity; nonviolence, truthfulness, freedom from anger; renunciation, tranquility, aversion to faultfinding, compassion and freedom from covetousness; gentleness, modesty and steady determination; vigor, forgiveness, fortitude, cleanliness, freedom from envy and the passion for honor—these transcendental qualities, O son of Bharata, belong to godly men endowed with divine nature.”

Questions:
To be fearless one needs to surrender to Kṛṣṇa. Are there other ways to learn to surrender to Kṛṣṇa besides the purification process?
